A little nostalgia

Last week I spent up at UAB with my cousin that was in the hospital. I am not going to go into too much detail on here, b/c it isn't my story to tell the world. She is doing better and home- but if you remember please say a prayer for her. We love her so much!

It was interesting being there b/c we were on the 8th floor of the same building I used to work in when I worked at the Neuro ICU. The NICU (at UAB that is considered the Neuro ICU, or NI...Neonatal ICU is called the RNICU or just RNI for Regional Neonatal ICU) was on the 6th floor.

The NI has since moved to a new 'critical care building one block over that was being built when I worked there in 2003-2004. I never worked at it, but have visited it and it is awwwweeesome. Largest NICU in the country.
Anyhoo. I never worked during the day in NI- well expect a few weeks on orientation. I was a nightshift girl. I still think my body remembers those nights. When I was working two different jobs and only off maybe 1 or 2 days a week I would keep the same schedule. Sleep all day, up all night. Why switch it up for one or two days and feel like crap?

Anyhoo- The first night I got there (Sunday), I arrived at 620pm. I remember looking at the clock in my car having that feeling of "I have 10 minutes to clock in". It isn't a conscious thought- but rather a physical response. Then I just chuckled. I didn't have to hurry.
Walking down the hallway was different- I parked in the new deck. no biggie.
When I came around the corner and came to the elevators we would go up I had flashbacks. The lights, the smells- the smell of fresh meat (aka the next shift coming in).

I got in the elevator and hit 6. HA HA HA. Habit. Then I realized I was going to 8.

Mom and I stayed at the hospital overnight for one night with my cousin. We got to b'ham a little after 8pm on a weeknight, so it was quiet. Hospitals are so different at night. I prefer hospitals at night. The personalities of night shift staffers are different. More laid back. More "ME".

That night my body kicked into work mode. I felt like I needed to be doing something. Working, eating, wandering the halls- anything. LOL.

Amazing how somethings come back so quickly.

I Need Cheese For My Whine.

Not much has changed...:) I am still exhausted. I honestly have over extended myself and am ready to sleep- uninterrupted for as long as possible. I don't' think that is going to happen anytime soon though. I am sure once we get to the new house I will be laying in bed planning the unpacking/where to put stuff/what all needs to be done etc. etc. etc. I am currently wide awake, but so tired. I tried to do some stuff (clean out fridge/etc.) but I am just to dang tired...yet, I can't sleep.

I am constantly going over in my head what all needs to be done today/where am I going to tell the movers to put stuff/freaking out over the stuff I haven't packed yet/worrying about the floors- if they will gouged by the movers/did I remember to leave out enough underwear until I find the box that has them/ do we have enough room for all our shit.

That AND my body just plain hurts. No I don't have the flu- I just hurt. Hours and hours of standing/sitting on that concrete painting at the new house. Packing here at the rental (can't pack sitting down). Working at the clinic all weekend. Wearing worn out/old shoes has made both my feet tender to the touch- the worst pain I have ever had in my feet. My left wrist's ganglion cyst is now the size of a shooter marble and is causing my wrist/hand/fingers to be very painful, yet oddly numb. I fell asleep for 2-3 hours finally tonight, but I woke up and now my RIGHT HAND is killing me. If I am now getting a cyst in that one i will think God is smiting me. Hopefully I just slept on it wrong- but that is how the LEFT one started last year.

So basically I am a joy to be around. I am the most patient person ever. I am being the best wife ever.
hardy har har.

At least this week I am only working at businesses giving flu shots- YEAH!!!!! Sit down work- thank GOD!!!! I do think if I am going to catch H1N1 it will have been from this weekend. Lots of flu cases, stress, run down, no sleep, packed vitamins...the perfect storm.
Blah. I just want to relax, rest, and sit around. Just be. I don't care if I don't get unpacked until 2010 right now.

oh, and we forgot to call directTv to schedule the move. grrrreat. Sucks huh? Goodness knows I didn't get a digital converter box for my TV so I am just plain screwed as far as the sitting around a vegging out for a day...I really don't even want to read- just sit and watch mind numbing TV.

Maybe I will just go outside and stare at the Polaris in the pool. I can do that for HOURS!

Sorry you had to read all this crap- if I don't get it out my head just might explode-or my temper at the tiniest thing.

Take one last look you guys- this is the last time this house will be clean for a long dang time.

Early this week I went and watched Julia and Julie with some friends. We had a blast! We all wore aprons, pearls, and a badge our friend Lynn 'whipped' up for us. :) I loved this movie. If you haven't seen it- DO! It makes me want to cook. Julia Childs' story is amazing- and

Meryl Streep did a WONDERFUL job. Can we say Oscar?!?!

Not to mention the movie is based on a woman that started blogging!! HELLO!!!! Back before blogging was even en vogue. I didn't even know what it was- I still don't get the term "meme"

Just figured out the other day was "IDK" stood for after Sarah sent a text with that from Beth's phone.

I have hit that magical age of falling apart and not knowing what people are talking about.

Dropping Like Flies

I am referring to my fellow co-workers. Influenza A has hit the Boulevard. We had two nurses go home in the first 2 hours on Sunday, one x-ray tech "getting over it", a sick doctor, and a sick registration clerk. Let me tell you- we will DO ANYTHING for repeat business.

If you didn't get the flu from sitting in the waiting room, and all the other patients hacking on ya....then WE will reassure we mean the phrase "Thank you for choosing us, we hope you come back again." uh, whenever the incubation period is over for ya and you start to show symptoms.

That is one thing that is hard for the medical professionals. BEING SICK. There are so few that can cover for you if you have to call in or go home. ESPECIALLY on the weekends. I know there are a few of you that might be thinking "I can't believe they worked with the flu- the could be giving it to the patients" It is either that or there are 3 people in the whole building to take care of you. Your normal 1 hour visit will last 4 because there is only one doctor and 3 nurses. Not cool.

I feel sorry for all my co-workers that are sick. I am achy and tired today- I hope it isn't the flu...I hope it is just plain old "I worked my butt off this weekend placating people hangover".

Seriously-that is what I do a lot of the time. "I am sorry you have had to wait 15 minutes, is there anything I can get you? Water, blanket, someone from the lobby, coffee, foot massage or aromatherapy?" oh, you want me to "go ahead and give you a antibiotic shot" since you know that is what the doctor is going to do anyways. Uh, okay- want me to write you an illegal prescription for NARCOTICS TOO??? Since I am only a NURSE!?!?! Sorry, just a little frustrated.

On a completely different note- I was in a wreck this weekend. No gasping or reaching for the phone please. It was a nothing- the best kind of wreck to get into. I was stopped at a light turning left, and a gal was turning right onto my road. Her car apparently thought I was in it's way, so it slid through the turn and smacked my left front bumper.

I was fine- she was literally going about 5 or 10 mph. I did hear a huge CRRRRAAACK. I sat there for a few seconds, and the light turned green (my light) The person behind me (who I would think saw it) laid on their horn and punched the gas- screeching tires. I thought HE was going to rear end me, or clip my back bumper. The rage bubbled up and I turned and flipped him off. I couldn't stop myself. HOW DARE HE get pissed at me b/c I didn't go at the green light right after I get smacked???!?!?!? There is KARMA for people like him...that and healthy dose of my middle finger and good old fashioned F-you. ;) My mother raised me well.

Anyways- I took off my bra and I didn't see any damage..Um, let me clarify that. I took off le bra from my car. The bumper kinda has a gap now...not sure. I haven't seen the front of my car in years. We waited 45 minutes for a trooper to say if there isn't 500 dollars of visual damage he doesn't get involved. We just exchange info and do it ourselves. uh. duh. I didn't know that.

Too bad though that she smacked me- that girl was really nice. If I met her anywhere else we might be friends. ;) I must be lonely today to think that.

Changing Jobs

Changing Jobs...uh, again....I am a serial job changer

Current mood:peaceful

So here I am starting over again. Obviously I have not been entirely happy where I am for a while, and it is not a good fit for me- AND Lance. I have to do what is right for me and for my family......some day family anyways. HA HA HA. It was a really hard thing to do- admit defeat and leave the NICU. I love working with the babies- I love work. BUT I am old enough to know what my limits are and to know that I have to take care of myself. I am also young enough to know that I had other options. So I went to my manager and she was understanding- thank God. I am not offically not a neonatal nurse.

Yikes. Very sad, as this is what I always wanted to do- but I just can't there is too much going on there that I don't want in my life. YOU KNOW????? ;) It is very to not the few friends I had made up there....I say few due to the fact that you work your damn arse off so hard that is hard to really get to know people. BUT, My friend Devona was my preceptor and she has been wonderfully supportive in my work there. She really was trying to make me comfortable and lift me up. I know she felt this coming- I felt bad, and felt like I let her down. When I told her today, she understood. I know will stay friends. I had been out of the nurse managers office around 5 minutes LITERALLY and waiting for Devona and another of the people I had become friends with came up to me and said (very sweetly) "you are quitting???" I was just shocked. I mean I heard stuff getting around quick but MY GOD. This is was faster than a damn A-Bomb. I asked her where she heard it from, and she said the coodinater...and I am like where did SHE hear it from?????? good grief. I just wanted to get out of there before I started getting the dirty looks. Because, I knew they were going to come.....the ones that relize that b/c I quit they are going to have to work MORE mandatory OT or have 4 babies on more days or go home at 9pm more often b/c I am quitting. Blah.

What matters is that I have peace about it, I feel good about. I have to do what is right for MY life, my husbands life, and my future families life. I have to a GOOD quality of life.

SO, I have applied for a transfer to the Urgent Care Clinic/Occupational Health. My manager said that she will grant it- I hope that she stays true to her word. ;) Wish me luck everyone.

This is the next step in my life.......I really wanted to not find a job and have to work at bar. Jimmy BRAXTON makes it sound interesting. ;)

Love to all!

Employed or Not?

is she gainfully employed or not?

Current mood:thankful

well, I guess I have to answer some questions b/c I guess thought everyone knew....I don't know HOW I thought everyone knew...suppose you were supposed to have read my mind........

BUT

I am going to be working at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola..This is the same hospital that Lance is going to be at staff at. Hopefully then we will see each other. Well, after I get off of night shift anyways- which is going to be for 3 months- the orientation time for the 8 new grads they have hired. Then the nurse manager said I will be going to days (7a-7p, 3 shifts a week) HOPEFULLY it will not fall through for some reason. I have really lucked out on this. Lady Luck was FINALLY smiling on me as she has been pretty indifferent to me lately.

OH- I am giving up the ER and going to work in neonatal ICU. They have a level 3 NICU. Not as big as UAB, but pretty impressive just the same. About 65 beds, but a lot of new upgrades and a total new section that is really cool! I am really looking forward to it- nervous, but looking forward to it.

I start June 19th, so I have a little time off of work to get settled in, get married, learn my new town, new state, etc. etc. phew....then start work and learn all over again. ha ha ha. So now, anyone have anymore questions????

Leaving AZ

Finishing Up in Arizona!!!!

Current mood:excited

Well, update on my life goes like this......STRESS!!! ha ha ha. Well, last week when I came out for my 7 on (this was May 2).I stopped off 'really quick' at one of the chain brake shops in phoenix to get my brakes done....needless to say it wasn't fast....I had to get the brakes done and all my fluids flushed and a general tune-up as my bothers were flying out on May 11 to drive my car back to AL b/c I just didn't have the time to do it...well....... nothing is ever quick in my life..there is ALWAYS 'the rest of the story' as Paul Harvey says.

Here is the rest of the story- after 2 hours or so the manager comes out to the front room and says for me to come back to the work area b/c the "noticed" something as they were finished with the car and lower it down.....I realize now that he didn't want to say what REALLY happened in front of the lobby full of people....I was thinking great. They found out that the TRANSMISSION I had fully replaced back in november is bad, or the something equally expensive needs to be fixed and I am down to "crunch time" as my fiance likes to say.....well, as the door behinds me shuts and the curious Lookie Lous in the Lobby are outta earshot, he turns around and I realize he is PALE...which is a major feat forhim as he is Middle Eastern.....and he said...(in one breathe btw) aswewereloweringyourcardownthedoorwasleftopenandithitatoolboxandleftadentapushedthedoorupalittlebitwewillfixit.

Translation...they fucked up. royally. Some dumb ass left the door open as it was up on the lift, and then as they were lowering it down, it hit a tool box...and then it bent the bottom of the door up and my poor little accord for about 20 minutes was a psuedo Delorean. ha ha ha ha. As I walk to my NO ONE in the shop will look at me. I see my door and it is all blue (I am assuming the tool box was blue?) and it is about 6-7 inches higher than it should be.

They had to hammer it out, then I guess push it down. They paid for me a rental car, and they paid for the damages. THANK GOD. I nearly had a heart attack though b/c at first he wasn't wanting to get me a rental car. He wanted me to drive my car until I flew out the next week (the 9th) and then take it to the body shop that day, and he was "pretty sure" they could fix it before my brothers flew in on the 11th. whatever. I dropped it off that day and they paid for my rental.I wasn't taking any chances with my luck- they would all catch meningitis at the body shop and no one would be able to work on the car and I would be buying my brothers two return tickets AND have to ship my car home. HA HA HA HA.

BUT, it was ready, it looks great- the door works great. My brothers got home sunday afternoon without any problems- I think they enjoyed their trip!

I am out here in AZ, and tomorrow night I start the last of my 7 days. I am so excited to start this new chapter of my life, but I am really going to miss the friends I have made out here. I don't know when I will make it out this way again- but I know I will one day. I am going to miss my right hand Lady Charlotte. She doesn't get on myspace- but just thinking about not working with her anymore makes me tear up. She is a great person and a great nurse- anyone out there that reads this needs to take this to heart- I spend 12 hours straight, 6 days in a row with her- in the rez ER trenches. She is an awesome person, and an awesome nurse I am proud to call her my friend. My Laughing Maria!!!! She always makes me laugh- no matter what....and with her I have learned that people will show up if you talk about them!!! HA HA HA. My friend Cindy who drove out with my last trip back to AL! Then there is Linda- my fellow travler that I am leaving behind in good ol' Motel...ha ha! There are so many more that I am not mentioning as I am getting sad... I will write more about all my friends later.....to thank them all!

Good Times Good Times.

The movers come thursday to pack up my house, then friday and saturday to pack up Lances...then saturday night or sunday we are off to pensacola!!! WOW!!!! They deliver on Tuesday so we will be eating off paper plates and takeout and sleeping on blowup beds until then. Then I will be setting up house until the wedding......I am getting excited...

12/12/06

Current mood:okay

Hi All. I do exist, and I am still alive. I have currently been seeing my life flash before my eyes. ha ha, not in the near death kinda fashion- but the fact that I hardly realize that it is almost CHRISTMAS. I went out to eat with Lance and Amit the other night, and Lance said something about 'over the holidays", and I was like "what holidays???" Thinking about this weekend or something- I really have no idea what alter universe I live in- but I totally forgot that it is The holiday season for a few minutes there.

I have a hard time realizing that it is December- jeez, I can't believe that July has happened already. Ha ha ha.

Update on my life. I am still working in Arizona, 7 on 7 off in the ER- I fly home on my off days...most of the time. I went up to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving. Stuffed myself silly after cooking with Lance's parents. I met Lance's childhood friend Joe, and his wife Marsha- and they are really nice. They have a new baby Lily that is a doll. This is the first time Lance has seen any of his friends with off spring. I am pretty lucky since I have seen two of my best friends children come into the world.....and have a bunch of babies in my life. Anyways- it was fun to see Lance work through it all in his head. It made Lance think about having children, etc. That was a fun process.

THEN this past weekend my mother and I went to Savannah, GA for a little girls weekend. We froze our arses off, but had a really good time. It was good to see my mother and spend time with her. I miss my family.

The wedding is still set for June 9th, 2006- it is going to be at the beach- Gulf Shores, AL area. Still to be decided exactly- I have hired the lady to do the pictures and to set up the ceremony. I really like her too. I may go down in January sometime and meet with her and decide some stuff. We are excited- even though Lance hasn't offically proposed yet- but he is working on that. I will let you all know when he does finally make it offical.

What else- I keep getting sick, and I am about to start wearing a mask at work. I am tired of it, but what can you do. I think I will work with unsick people whenever I settle down with the Lancer.

Hope everyone is doing well, and having a great time getting ready for the holidays. I wish I could spend time with everyone, but it really sucks. There is no perfect set up huh???

Love to all and Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.......

The Latest

The Latest

Current mood:aggravated

okay, so here is the deal..I flew to AZ tuesday night (halloween night), and got in at 12 midnight, got a taxi to the office, and to my car and by about 0045 I was in the car and realizing something wasn't right. The D4 light was blinking, the check engine was blinking and I was accelerating after the stoplight at about 0 to 30 in 4 minutes. It was bad. I pulled into the gas station. Got out and checked my oil and trannie fluid levels (all was well), got back in and cranked it and the lights were not flashing, but the check engine light was on. My car was acclerating normally. So I pulled in to the first hotel I got to (a very nice hampton inn btw), and checked int for the night as I wasn't going to drive 90 miles and up and down steep 8% declines with no cell phone reception for 30 minutes.......so, I had gotten a HUGE vente latte with two extra shots of espresso at the airport before i knew I was going to be staying in phoenix...and I had already consumed it..so I didn't fall asleep until 5 am or so. Then I had to be up at 730 to take my car to the dealer. I was thinking I had an extended warrenty to 150,000 miles on the trannie....So I got to the dealership who told me about 45 minutes and they would have my answer...so at 1030 he had my answer....Answer is........I am at 114,000 miles, and my warranty ended at 100,000. So right after the service manager told me that the estimate for a new traniewas 3500...I kinda started tearing up and getting pale and ashen faced...he got called away on another phone call, and while he was on the phone I got a call from the company I want to hire for the wedding --> -->and I was a little overwhelmed......the service guy was coming back towards me, and I was crying and telling the wedding people that I wanted to book them, but it would be a few weeks before I had the deposit b/c of my trannie- but I wanted to save the date, and would it be okay, how much was the deposit, etc. etc....so the service guy heard me saying all that and when I got off the phone he was patting my back saying "oh dear, you are planning a wedding also." ha ha ha ha ha. He said that he would try and see what he would be able to do with the Honda warranty people to help me out. he told me to wait another 15 minutes or so and he would get back with me. Well at 1145am I couldn..'t wait any longer b/c i had to sleep- I had to be at work at 7pm. SO, I had to get all my stuff- dirty clothes todrop off at the cleaners, my toletries, etc. outta my car- use the courtesy shuttle to the office I had to go and get to the office (the travel nurse company that I work for) so I could get my crappy rental from them (they are paying for it b/c they feel really sorry for me. ;)) get to Globe an sleep before I had to work....so. I get the rental, and 15 minutes into the drive out here I realize the speedometer, and odometer don..'t work...then I realize the check engine light is on...and the transmisson slips from 3rd to 2nd. HA HA..ha ha ha ha ha. go figure. oh well. I really don..'t care. I am going to take it back on Saturday SO back to my story. I get to globe around 230pm on Wednesday, and really don..'t get any sleep. I was worried about the 3500 for the trannie. My wedding, my friends wedding in april in puerto rico we ahve to pay for.....etc. etc. etc..... I was so tired by the time I got to work at 7pm. then I worked to 7am. I slept for about an hour around 5am when we didn..'t have any patients...but that was it. ha ha. I was freaking delirious. It was funny. oh, and I had got up at 6am TUESDAY to take lance to work....so byy the time I got off on thursday morning I had only had roughly 4 hours sleep since tuesday morning at 6am....AND 12 hours work. The sad part was that I wasn..'t able to just go to sleep when I got off b/c i Had to pick up my uniforms at the laundry mat (yes, I pay someone else to do my clothes..sad huh? but it is only 12 dollars...worth it to me.), and i had to go to wal-mart and buy some tennis shoes b/c i FORGOT MINE. ha ha ha. I had to wear dress shoes to work last night b/c I forgot my tennis shoes in my car in phoenix. ha ha ha. SO, then they called me and told me that the Honda warranty people are going to honor 75% of the cost of the replacement transmission, and the 25% I am going to have to pay will be around 596.00, plus the 49.00 for the diagnostic test. They are going to do that b/c I am not much over the 100000miles, and personally I think also b/c I had small breakdown in the lobby. ha ha ha ha. AND it will be warrantied for 3 years/or 36,000 miles. it is called a refurbished, but it is just the housing(casing) that is reused- the actual transmission and working components are new. YEAH! I am so excited that it is cheaper than I thought it was going to be. SO then I passed the HELL out on thursday morning around 930 am. HA HA HA. I slept so good. It was rough though. by the time my shift was over I looked like death warmed over, felt like death cooled over, and was not making any sense even to myself. I think I hallucinated a few times too. I kept hearing whistling. ha ha ha ha. They might have been messing with me, but who knows. I was majorly sleep deprived. SO, that is what is new with me. always something huh?

insomnia

Current mood:lethargic

so, I have fiddled with the thing called a myspace layout generator. Can anyone tell me a good one that can fix with the background I want, and colors in the text boxes that I want, and everything still work? ie slideshows etc. Maybe I am just too tired to figure out what I am sure is right in front of my face. I had a really weird dream as soon as I fell asleep this AM, and now unable to go back to sleep. I will not go into all detail ...........I have Dean Koontz type dreams lately as that is what I am reading.....some weird psychogenic, out of body experience book- very good read- but making for weird dreams.

Anyways, tonight is my last night for this stretch and I hope it is easy and I get on my plane at 1110am tomorrow without difficulty. Work this week has been interesting. I have been pissed on (seizure), puked on (105.8 temp 2 year old), spit on (drunk/meth'd out teenager), groped (old blind man who really didn't mean it...I think...), and get this....told by a patient that she was going to report us for "having to much fun". No joke, she was serious. At the time we had 3 patients...two admissions waiting for beds at outside hospitals and her....so basically it was her. She was screened (triaged, or vitals and complaint taken), 5 minutes later the doc was in there, about 5 after he got out I was giving Morphine 5mg IM and Phenergan 25mg IM, and THEN as soon as I was done someone else went into draw blood.......she told the gal drawing blood that she didn't like us laughing, and talking and we were having too much fun and she was going to report us for that, and for being unprofessional and laughing while people are sick.....HA HA HA HA HA HA. She had freakin' PID...for those in the know that is PELVIC INFLAMATORY DISEASE.......hoochie rot, tuna boat syndrome, wash yo taco disease......and she was just a pain. I mean from the time she walked in until the time she got a SHIT load of narcotics (over medicated if you ask me) was quicker than most people even get to see the first person.

I ask- so for 7 days straight, 12 hours each day- she wants me not to laugh, or cut up or BE MYSELF? Whatever. I am getting jaded in the ER again. I thought I was over this after leaving RMC in Anniston, but it is bugging me again.....and I have to get it off my chest.....for those easily offended, do not read the following. This is my blog and I can say whatever the freak I want. For those out there that might get irritated at nurses or other medical staff b/c they seem to be "taking too long" or "laughing, and not caring about me"....SHUT THE FUCK UP. You are not the only person out there, and you have no idea what is going on. The 'nurses' you are getting mad at might be lab techs or x-ray tech that are just in scrubs. The nurses are probably getting your freaking medicine or starting someone else's IV. Perhaps they are giving a baby a suppository, or crying with a 14 year old that just got raped. YOU DON"T KNOW, SO SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

If you are able to complain and whine and bitch, then you are not that FREAKING SICK. Perhaps, yes, PERHAPS the nurse IS taking a break...perhaps she is going to the bathroom or scarfing down some food. well let me tell you- LET HER. She/he is only human.

Ever since a kidney infection last year and then urologist visits, cystoscopy and urodynamic studies later, I have been having to self cath myself every week or so. I have ruined the nerves in my bladder from holding it too long for too many years, and feeling guilty over people like this- so I would just hold it and run around taking care of everyone else but myself. NO MORE. I had a blood sugar of 44 one night last week b/c I was SICK as SHIT and still working and unable to keep much in me. Guess what? I still kept right on- sicker than 90% of the people I TREATED that night. Someone had the guts to ask me that night what was taking so long and I almost started crying...now I am just pissed. Tired and pissed.

So, sorry about the raving to anyone who is still reading this. I am going to try and get at least 4 hours sleep before I have get up and do it again. I hope I can stay asleep this time.

**Disclaimer*** I am not really normally like ths. I really do care, and I do love my job. I am a good nurse- just midly burnt out. again. Tomorrow is a new day and I have seven off and a trip to beach after this...then I will be my normal smiley, bubbly self

love to all

Short funny work story

Current mood:relaxed

So everyone knows I work in an Indian Reservation Hospital....some have heard of the violence....mostly out there it is getting hit in the head with some very hard, painful object....Most of the time it was a baseball bat or a lead pipe. I don't understand where in the world all these people get lead pipes- i think there is a local pawn shop on the Rez (reservation) that has hardly any light coming in from the outside world, a large forboding man with dark sunglasses and a bandana on(to show his colors), behind glass topped counter that you peer into and see all shapes, sizes and types of metal pipes. You hand him a 1/2 a case of 40's (King Cobra), and you get the pipe- sans pipe license....since they are not controlled like guns.

SO, to my story (sorry I got side tracked)- Last week when I worked we had a man come in with the Police getting medically cleared to go to Jail, and he was raising Cain.......He was arrested for abusing his wife, and she got a few good licks in (good for her), and he was pissed off about that- and the fact he was going to have to pay 60 bucks to get outta jail the next day....he says...and I QUOTE..."I don't understand why I am getting arressted, it isn't like I went after her with a knife and stabbed her up.....I only hit her with a lead pipe".....True story. The said woman who 'only got hit with a lead pipe' got about 24 stitches, a few broke teeth, and a lot of bruises. That is the mentality....but with the sick twisted minds of Nurses we laughed for about 2 hours on that on statement.

I mean, isn't a LEAD PIPE a murder clue in the game Clue????

I love my job.

Not much new....bad language post....

not much

Current mood:hungry

well, I am back out here in HOT Arizona, about to start my next 7 days of work. My 7 days off seem to go by SO much quicker than the 7 I work. I suppose that is just 'grown up' life. It sucks- honestly.

I had a good trip home- I actually really did pretty much nothing. I sat next too the biggest a-hole on the trip from Cinncinati to B'ham. He actually got up during take off to 'take a piss'. He refused to buckle his seatbelt b/c he was tired, and in the end called me "high and mighty" b/c I was tired (I worked the night before, was sick and just wanted to sleep), in his mind b/c i was wearing scrubs. The flight attendent asked me if he was drunk-I told her I didn't smell anything, but he had either smoked something, took a pill, or shot something up.....or he SERIOUSLY needed his medications adjusted. He kept falling asleep and jerking his legs all up against mine, and dropping his hand in my lap. After he was extremely obnoxious, I just stood up and moved seats----and promptly passed out. What an ass. Flight attendent is filing a complaint of my behalf...she told me this AFTER he tried to hit on her and pick her up on the way off of the plane when we got to B'ham. HA. What a clueless dumbfuck.

Then on the trip back yesterday this ASSHOLE behind me would hit the seat everytime I leaned it back. He jumped my ass b/c he said he had to work on his computer and he was trying to push my seat foward. HA HA HA HA HA. Oh, I kinda was alittle pissed, and I basically said tough shit (without the shit, as I was on an airplane), and informed him that the computer was a laptop- and put it in his lap for all I cared. I and I left the seat back, and my tray table in the DOWN and UNLOCKED POSITION the entire trip. Jerks and assholes really piss me off. I totally would have raised my seat if he JUST WOULD HAVE ASKED ME. ugh.

So, the rest of the weekend was good. really did nothing. Lance's windsheild got busted saturday on our way to my friend Kay's, so we didn't do much driving the whole weekend. I waited ALL DAMN DAY monday for the guy to come fix it. About 400pm I just threw my list of things to do in the trash- wasn't happening. The guy finally came out and was very interesting. He was leaning across the jeep at one point cleaning the edges or something and he just LET ONE RIP. I mean this one could have been entered in a contest, or lit or something. I was talking with my friend Joy, and it was all we could do to not lose it. He just went about his business. Insane. I guess to him a fart is just like a burp or a sneeze. Sickening. I wanted to tell him to check his nasty ass after one.

SO, I am out here for another 7 days, and looking foward to it. I hate being gone, but I love the 7 days off in a row, and the 2500 miles I get with delta every week.

Adios

Out to buy a weeks worth of food, and wash a weeks worth of scrubs....

life update....

Current mood:sleepy

Okay, so apparently the gas leak was a pretty major thing (go figure). We were back in the hospital in 16 hours, but they had to take the tanks out and all the piping (they were the propane tanks for the generator). They had the front part of the ER (ambulance ramp/main entrance) cordoned off, and so pt's had to come in the front of the hosp. Apparently that is too much hassle so the last two nights I have been back at work it has been SWEET. Since I only slept 2 1/2 hours yesterday and have a hellacious head cold- that was fine with me. The whole ordeal was pretty funny b/c they closed inpatient, but the ER was open- I guess they figured we could blow up. :)

It was also very slow last night b/c a local gal jumped off of a mesa right in town- approx. 400 foot drop- straight down. It was very very sad. I can't imagine what she was going through. She was a gal that came to the ER every week either manic or depressive- seeking attention, eloping, coming back, laughing and egging on. We never thought she would ever actually do anything- but you just never know. It is very sureal. Say a prayer for her twin sister- who is bipolar also, but she takes her meds. I really hope that she doesn't take it too hard.

I am out here in AZ working my 7on- when I go home this next time Lance's parents will be there so I am excited to see them. Lance's b''day is on the 13th, so they are coming down early for that. Also, he is finished with his residency today, and on Wednesday starts his fellowship in EMG at UAB- I am proud of him. The Attendings appointed him Chief Fellow of Neurology- very nice on the old CV(resume for all us peons). He is still interviewing and looking for a good match for when he gets out next summer- everyone keep their fingers, toes, hair and eyes crossed that he lands somewhere that is a good fit for him. Say a prayer too...

Other than all that life is same old same old for me. I am just counting down the miles until I get my Medallion status and I gets first class....3.5 more trips. ha ha ha. I am so greedy.

I miss everyone, and I hope everyone is doing well.

Fun Never Ends in San Carlos........

Current mood:sleepy

So, this morning when the security guard came around he said "has anyone noticed the hissing sound coming from the propane tank outside?? Of course we hadn't, being as we were WORKING and all inside the ER-a. I get a call a little while ago and the word is that the propane was leaking, and now the ENTIRE hospital is evacuated. hee hee hee. we could have blown up last night, and I wouldn't have known it until I heard the Harps and met my Maker. Good thing thing the smoking rate of the Apache nation is like 0.1%. If this would have happened in the South you all would be reading my Obit., and not my blog.

So we are temporarily assigned to "Noline's Country Store". Oh, joy joy joy. I have no clue as to what the next 12 hours will hold for me, but I am sure it will be interesting. To darn bad I have finished all my books....hope I have enough light to do my cross stitch. HA HA HA. At least I am going home in the morning.

Wish me luck!

Headed Home

Heading home

Current mood:happy

I am about to head on to the next adventure....sort of. I work tonight- my last night of this stretch...it is me and Dr. Garcia after 11pm. Should be interesting. He is super fast, and lets me order whatever (labs, x-rays, etc) if I need to, so it will be good. Say a prayer though- I am pretty effecient, but it will suck if something bad comes in. YIKES.

I will be outta commission until I don't know when- I fly to Atlanta Wednesday and staying with Christi until Friday- then in the hotel for the wedding Saturday. Then fluttering around Alabama making the rounds- seeing family, seeing my other friends new (3 months old) house, and getting a months worth of mail from my house (mortgaged storage building...ha ha ha)

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day, and didn't enduldge too much. Hope everyone is at work today. ha ha ha ha ha.

I am now waiting for my clothes to drrrrrrrryyyyyyyy. Worse than watching paint dry, really. Esp. b/c I have been up all night, and seriously thinking kindly on the wash and fold service the local laundrymat offers for $20. hummmmm, only I have a thing about strangers and my under-Roos. ugh.

Homesick

Homesick

I am getting up going to work another day...three more until I fly outta here to Hotlanta for Christi's wedding. I will finally make it to B'ham Sunday night....who knows when I will actually get to my house. I own a very expensive storage unit for all my stuff.

I am homesick b/c two of my really good friends Jennifer and Luke got engaged today, AND I MISSED IT. Blah. It was pretty funny though- I had my ringer off and snoozing, and at 1pm she called my hotel room- and I was all "ahh, blah, ugh, snark, snark, who is this???? Where am I?" I knew it as soon as I heard her voice...well rather as soon as I was back in my body after the coma I fall into each day.
SO- off to Puerto Rico next year! (that is where she is from). That is going to be so much fun. I met Jen and Luke through Lance- they used to be his neighbor in the apt. before they bought a mansion. (hee hee) I miss them.

I am so excited! Another wedding. ha ha.

HI HO HI HO Its off to work I go.
